A telescope is a device that is often used to help observers increase the angular and visual size of a distant object so that they can observe, photograph or study it. Telescopes usually use curved optical elements such as lenses or mirrors to gather light and images and bring them to a focus where they can be observed. Telescopes are most commonly used to view and study astronomical objects such as planets, stars and other galactic phenomenon because these objects cannot usually be viewed with the human eye. Telescopes can often come in different sizes and strengths, depending on the size and power of the mirrors being used.
